✈️💗🪄 Hotel del Coronado, California Dreaming

Voyage. Amour. Magie. : Hotel del Coronado

1500 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118

I have been blessed to have slept in some of the world’s greatest hotels and resorts. Call it an occupational biproduct from my Expedia days, call me a luxury travel seeker; but please, whatever you do, don’t call to invite me camping.

While 2022 has had it’s share of challenges, I have been blessed to have taken some great holidays this last turn around the sun.

So here we are with a new blog category:

Reviews by Ashleigh Ryan Widger Walls (I mean there are worse critics!)

So let’s begin with a springtime long-weekend trip I took from Seattle to San Diego (yes it’s a delayed post).

The direct flight on Delta was really easy, just two and a half hours from rain to sunshine.

In short, this hotel is magical. And not just because it really is 15 minutes from the airport.

The Hotel del Coronado has been a vacation destination for 11 U.S. Presidents, world-wide celebrities, a ghost, and very lucky families, since 1888.

I am not the first person to have had a magical stay at the del. There are images around the hotel of Lucy & Ricky Ricardo, Walt Disney, Charlie Chaplin, Wallis Simpson (who met the future-abdicated King of England at a del party), to name a few, creating some pretty great #delmemories

Area activity choices are abundant, that is if you even venture off sight. Visit the USS Midway Museum (think Top Gun!), the San Diego zoo, La Jolla cove, and don’t miss the tacos.

San Diego is known for it’s amazing climate and beautiful beaches but I didn’t even venture offsite this last visit. It was the perfect long-weekend getaway with beach walks, cabana time, delicious food, and more than one visit to Sundae’s at the del.

I’m grateful for a former golf pro for introducing me to the property, and for the multi-visit memories. 🥂

Stay

Room types vary from a standard double in the Victorian main building to a luxurious, and exclusive, Beach Village cabana. I was treated to a room with an incredible view (see pic below) of the ocean and the navy pilots landing nearby.

The new Shorehouse “neighborhood” is accepting reservations.

On-site

There are six spots on-site to eat, with Beach Village guests also having access to Windsor Cottage and Breezes. Chef Jojo Ruiz headlines at Serea Restaurant, bringing a fresh perspective to tried-and-true seafood dishes.

The pool has daily cabana rentals (grab a Cabanette for two, along the south side of the pool, for some poolside privacy or one of the second floor “Top Tier” cabanas for eight, great people watching included).

Gwenny would also like to weigh in that the hotel is truly pet friendly.

Visit For

Seasonal experiences ranging from the area’s top Fourth of July party to ice skating by the sea to celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year.

Pro Travel Tip(s)

Check out the resort activities page for weekly updates for on-site and San Diego happenings. The property has everything from paddleboard pool yoga, del surf academy, and daily live music; renting a car for a Del vacation is not necessary.

The property is part of the Hilton family of brands — use Amex Hilton Honors Card to earn 7x points on site.
