Those Sunday night PR blues

đŸ„Breaking News

Elon Musk will not join Twitter’s Board of Directors

News alerts are popping up on my phone every few minutes tonight that Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal just announced Elon Musk has decided against joining the Board. Mr. Agrawal first appeared here in a post where I referenced my distaste for his stance on free speech.

If you’ve been keeping up with some topics I’ve been covering, it’s really Elon Musk that’s been making my top of mind headlines. I wrote about the $55 million ticket three civilians paid for Axion’s flight to the international space station last week. Twitter’s edit button, but more specifically, Mr. Musk’s investment and Board appointment, also made my feed. I referenced my shock and awe that a CEO of a publically traded company could make a thinly veiled drug reference to the share price for which he is responsible via Twitter in August 2018. Not over it.

Tonight I bring finger to keyboard in an empathetic shout out to the PR teams for news outlets, talk shows, and investment conferences. They are all clamoring how to get Mr. Musk on air. A quote. A sit down. Oprah? 📞

One major challenge? Mr. Musk is his own PR team. He fired his whole media staff in 2020 because he said he didn’t want to manipulate the news.

I don’t think Mr. Musk cares about his public imagine. Something that goes against all I have stood for when producing corporate communications I believe in. He doesn’t care if we care that he has a zillion kids, for example. Mr. Musk leads the conversation. Maybe “Elon the dad” will be a future post lol

I can’t wait to watch this story unfold. M. Musk invested about $3 billion for a 9.2% stake in Twitter last month. There’s a “put your money where your mouth is” joke in here somewhere. And I hope Mr. Musk lets us in on it.

As I sign off for the night I will leave you with the last cryptic tweet sent about a half hour ago from @elonmusk

#lastlaugh

Blame the late day caffeine today for two more points after I seemingly signed off.

1.If I could use this blog to ask Mr Musk some questions, one up for consideration might include digging deeper on the background check that a Twitter board member needs to pass.

2.I saw this tweet from @elonmusk earlier today and I am incredibly happy I didn’t sign up to pay for Twitter Blue today 🙄 Pre-Musk Team Twitter shouldn’t get the credit
