The billion dollar nanny
The historic SAF-AFTA strike ended today after 118 days. SAG-AFRA President, Fran Drescher, said the deal is worth more than a billion dollars over three years.
The negotions secured wage increases up to 11%, performance-related payments for streaming shows, and so-called protections for actors from the threat of AI. Since no one knows the power of AI, how this point was negotiated beyond “don’t use my likeness, which, you know, you are already using” is lost on me.
I digress.
So what does this mean? Hopefully new episodes of some sitcoms (the world needs some smiles) by January. Studios will hopefully be bustling, and my Netflix queue is ready.
This strike settlement also means we’ll get to see actors promote films on the red carpet. I, for one, am excited for this. I don’t understand how the Hunger Games is back in theatres and I am going to need some actors on the red carpet to answer some questions!
