Peace be with you

I really don’t want to write this post. I don’t want to commemorate the incomprehensible week that has just unfolded. Yet here I am. My selfish goal is to close out this week, today, and have hope.

Because, truth is, the world is a really scary place right now. There are many examples, but, specifically, last weekend Hamas invaded Israel from land, sea, and air (paragliders).

Women, children, innocent people at a music festival, and babies, were brutalized, to put it mildly. It was the biggest terrorization of Jews since the Holocaust. In the last week 1,300 people are dead at the hand of Hamas. Additionally 1,900 people are reported deceased in Gaza. In the last week.

I am not blind to the fact 350,000 Ukrainians (and Russian soldiers) have died so far in Russia’s invasion. This is not a comparison. That conflict is petrifying.

What makes this cruelty next-level petrifying for me, is the fact that there are people that are don’t believe the Holocaust happened. There is no attempt to do any research. The single-minded ignorance of so many.

How will this narrative be spun by people that don’t know their history? Actually, I have already seen on television students at protests re Israel’s protection of itself, many from America’s elite universities, actually saying “Palestinians are Hamas”, and that Hamas is not a terrorist organization, it is simply a resistance movement. I am so sickened. I image the innocent people of Palestine to be sickened as well.

This topic is all over the news, the individual stories are starting to get covered, but there are still so many questions. This video is what I posted on Meta this week, and what I aspire to be for others in this scary time. #bethelight

The former leader of Hamas called for today to be, globally, “a day of rage”. That is some scary shit.

There are still about 150 hostages, and Israel has vowed to eradicate Hamas (read: level and clean out the tunnels of Gaza). Tomorrow, for the first time in company history, El Al will fly on the sabbath, transporting Israeli army Reservists into the war.

I have many fears about the days ahead, but I won’t give them airtime, it wouldn’t be productive. Instead I will continue to try to be a supportive friend, present mom, and light for others. Shabbat shalom. May peace be with all of us.
