First adopter

Friends like to point out that I am a first responder techy fan girl, certainly when it comes to any apple product. Same usually holds true for an Instagram workout fad devise. Likely not to your surprise, I am a sucker for a catchy ad campaign.

🎬(this one always makes me smile!)🎬

Back to my oura ring commentary.

I have been wearing the oura ring since the long days of 2020 covid craziness. I read that the PGA tour gave out the rings as an early detection device for covid, as body temperature is one of the data points the ring captures.

Rewind … my ex husband decided he was going to wear a titanium wedding band because he thought the impenetrable material was cool; I, on the other hand, didn’t think so in 2008 nor today. But was it true medical grade tools couldn’t even break his ring? If so, maybe it was sortof cool, or the romantic in me wanted to think.

We got divorced before he lodged his hand somewhere to find out a definitive winner: not basic tools vs titanium ring

I, on the other hand …

Back to techy-loving Covid-crazy me.

So I start seeing oura ring ads online, reading a press release or two about the PGA tour’s use of the wearable, and I bit the bullet, so to speak.

Buyer be warned, it takes a minute to get the actual hardware in (on) your hands.

After choosing the color I wanted, giving my credit card creds, and submitting my order, the first box that arrived snail mail (no expedited shipping which never makes for a happy heart of mine) is the sizing box. You get a whole host of actual rings to try on. Not great for the environment but getting that box in the mail does make the product’s first view seemingly legit from a production and ops perspective.

Ok so you download the app, tell customer service what which of the rings sent via snail for sizing fits best, and wait. And wait. 🐌

So the ring arrives … and I love it. The data is fabulous, I can wear fun watches again (vs a Fitbit or Apple watch), and who doesn’t love a techy conversation starter?

Here we are, a good year and a half later. For the most part, the ring has been a constant on my hand. The battery life isn’t actually great so I can’t say I have all the data I should, but my overall first adopter product review has consistently been positive.

And, oddly enough, it remains positive despite this being the actual ex ray of my hand, avec oura ring. That is, the ring that cannot be cut off by fire department nor emergency room “not basic” tools.

All’s well that ends well. The ER doc painfully got the ring off (yes, intact but I really will spare you the details) and my finger is healing already.

The review? Still a fan girl
